Divjaka coast covered in waste, Municipality cleans up just for "show"

The publication in the media of alarming images of tons of urban garbage that had invaded the beach, set the authorities in Divjaka in motion.

But representatives of the municipality and protected areas seem to have used the beach cleaning campaign only for show.

They worked for a few hours, just enough to be filmed by television cameras, and with the media leaving, they left themselves, leaving behind large amounts of debris, as seen in these images taken this Wednesday.

About 30 people have been working to clean up the coastline, while representatives of the authorities justify that they do not have enough forces and means to carry out the action. According to them, it is a large area of sand and a coastline about 24 km long.

The same thing happened today. No more than 10 employees of the protected areas administration and some employees from the municipality's cleaning company were on the coast and stayed only 3 hours. But they blame the small number of employees, not the work that they leave half done.

"Currently, about 1 km of coastline has been cleaned and I believe it will take about a week to complete the action, if volunteer forces are added ," said Edion Toromeni, head of the monitoring sector at ADZM.

Although the pollution of the coast is alarming, caused by the flows of the Shkumbin and Seman rivers, the leaders of local government and environmental agencies seem to live in a different reality. Albania's garbage became international news a few days ago, after it ended up in Dubrovnik, occupying the front pages of Croatian media and the most famous newspapers in the world, such as the New York Times. / Tv klan
