The Skërfica tunnel finally opens, Tirana-Saranda 45 minutes earlier

Today, the Kardhiq-Delvinë road was finally opened! The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama, Minister Belinda Balluku and Mirela Kumbaro were also present. MP Anila Denaj and the mayor of Tepelena, Tërmet Peçi, were also present.
The construction of this axis was expected for years by the residents of Gjirokastra and the tourist operators as it will bring together two cities that have a significant number of visitors, Saranda and Gjirokastra.
The Minister of Energy said that " the work started in 2008 with three remaining road lots, which were completed in 2018, after 10 years from the time they were opened during the DP government."
"In 2018, we started the other lots, 4,5 and 6, delivered in 2021 and the 7th lot, the Skërfica tunnel, 1.3 km and with the entrance portals another 1.3, so 2.6 km in total of this work. We have started in August 2020 to finish it on 31 August 2022 and as we promised on the opening day, we finished it 2 months ago.

The interest is growing, we see the flows coming from the ports, if until years they were 1-2 days, now they are 1 week. There is a larger offer that they catch in the span of half an hour. If you take into account the connection of Përmet with Erseken and Korça, they connect the sea with the highlands of Korça. If we add the two investments that have been made with Tepelena and Vlora and Himara, practically the houses in Tepelena, Gjirokastër and Permet are facing the sea", said Kumbaro.
Meanwhile, on July 9, the Vlora by-pass will finally open.
