A 30-year-old man from Albania, who had been charged in the case of the murder of police officer Giorgos Lyggeridis on December 7, 2023 in Rentis, is among the 4 arrested members of a criminal group that trafficked cannabis and processed cocaine in Agia Varvara and other areas of Western Attica.

The drug trafficker is a person with a criminal record for rape, theft, resisting authorities, weapons law violations, as well as six drug-related cases from 2014 to date.

Police used information indicating that the 30-year-old and his associates were distributing narcotics, with a distribution point in an apartment in the Agia Varvara area. On Thursday afternoon, two of the suspects were arrested in Koridallos, after being found in possession of quantities of raw and processed cannabis (hashish), which they had received shortly before from the 30-year-old and a 27-year-old suspected of being his main accomplice.

The leader and deputy leader of the group in the Agia Varvara apartment were also arrested. In addition to the 30-year-old's serious criminal record, the 27-year-old had also been accused of participating in a gang that committed robberies, as well as of illegal possession and use of weapons.

Another 34-year-old member of the group was arrested in 2011 as part of a criminal organization that transported cannabis from Greece to Western European countries by truck. About 2 tons of raw cannabis were seized in that operation. The 30-year-old has also been previously charged with intentional murder, robbery and several thefts.
