Importation of ice creams with dangerous ingredients, AKU reacts: Albania on the list of 47 countries that are supplied by a French company

The National Food Authority has reacted to the case of ice creams with dangerous ingredients, which were brought to attention a day ago by the Chairman of the High State Control, Arben Shehu, in the annual report to the Economy and Finance Committee in the Assembly.
The latter stated brought to attention an audit case of the National Food Authority in 2021 for a quantity of ice cream with dangerous ingredients, for which he said that the AKU had not taken any action.
In the announcement made today, AKU clarifies that it received the notification from the RASFF system on July 30, 2021.
" ...We were informed that Albania is on the list of 47 countries that have been supplied with the ice cream product produced by a French company, which contained the "unauthorized substance ethylene oxide in the lygomme stabilizer used for the production of ice cream" .
After receiving the notice, AKU says that verifications of the imported quantity were carried out for the respective lots recorded in the notice, as well as inspections were carried out at the Food Business Operators in order to follow the traceability of the product and withdraw it from the market and dispose of it.
" Imports for this product according to the lots determined by the RASFF system were carried out during the period from 01.03.2021 to 22.05.2021 (the date before the release of the notification from the RASFF system on 31.07.2021). "
Seven days after receiving the notification, AKU says that inspections were carried out in the respective entities and then the entire amount of this product was blocked and destroyed.
The National Food Authority also clarifies that this authority notified the consumer for the products specified in the respective Lot, for non-consumption and return to the points of sale where they bought it.
The day before, the head of the LASH stated the opposite, saying that the AKU was immediately notified by the European RASFF system, but that it did not take any action to block the product.
