Humidity, infections and pressures, the ''secrets'' of the

Elderly Care Centers are intended to be environments that offer peace, care, and love to all those who, for various reasons, have left their homes, being left under the care of specialized personnel.

But, apparently, that's not always the case.

Because while we see an increase in these private structures every day, especially in Tirana, state institutions do not have the necessary capacity to test the staff and the conditions offered to the elderly.

Like in the case we are going to show you.

We are near Student City, at the Joshua Center, a nursing home that has been operating in the health and social care market for the elderly for years. But as we look around the building, we notice that there is no information board to tell us about the activity that takes place inside.

High, covered walls, gates that are locked with locks and keys on every side, and metal cladding that give the idea of a rehabilitation center rather than an asylum where the elderly should spend their time in peace and relaxation.

Because after all, their relatives pay not only for the service, but also for the environment where the elderly will be accommodated. In reality, we received information about the scandalous conditions in this structure from four ladies, who in the situation of an unfair dismissal from work decided to show what happens within those walls.

The women say they worked in scandalous hygienic and sanitary conditions, they took their salaries in hand, they worked without annual leave. They even tell how they replaced sick people, some of them with mental health problems, making the situation even worse.

One of the ladies says she also got an infection in her eyes and hands because of her work.

But while working in such conditions, they are fired with just a phone call from the asylum director, Majlinda Treska.

The latter no longer even deigns to give an explanation to Adriana, Mimoza, Dhurata and Meribani, who after working for decades in her asylum, were thrown out onto the street. All with one click. No explanation, no claim of violation or abuse at work. Go away, I don't love you anymore.

So, to find out the truth, we went to the Joshua Center asylum ourselves. But it was written that we would not meet the director the first time. The doors were closed, the current employees looked out the windows as they watched their former colleagues waiting to meet the director, while the latter locked herself inside, avoiding confrontation with Adriana, Mimoza, Dhurata and Meribani, who were standing outside the iron gate waiting for an answer...

So we went again a few days later but the same situation: the doors of the asylum were closed and no one gave us the opportunity to clarify the situation.

Under these conditions, we decided to call the administrator of the Joshua Center, Mr. Parid Treska, who is the director's son. But the latter, with an arrogant attitude, hung up the phone and did not provide any explanation.

In the conditions where we received no response this time, together with the four women, we went to the Labor Inspectorate, where the ladies filed a lawsuit for unfair dismissal.

The inspectorate's reaction was not delayed.

Two inspection groups, for working conditions and health and social care services, were immediately put into action and found successive violations at the Joshua Center asylum.

And if you think that the illegality at Joshua Center ends with the four toilets, now let's move on to the conditions in which the elderly are kept, whose relatives pay huge sums to accommodate them there.  According to the Labor Inspectorate, the asylum has a lack of staff documentation regarding health care, while even more serious is the fact of the lack of specialists in the field, such as psychologists or social workers.

Not to mention the conditions of the toilets, the humidity, and the lack of accompanying documentation for each resident in the asylum.

The principal, Majlinda Treska, whom we luckily managed to meet, knows all these things. But the principal, like her son, refuses to give any answers, leaves in a hurry and slams the door.

To summarize once again, the lady did not respect the Labor Code at any time, taking advantage of the difficult economic situation of the ladies and keeping them  working without a contract, with half-paid, undeclared salaries, and not offering them any hygiene conditions . And in the end, she threw them away./ Piranha
