In the Vetting show on News24, the issue of reconstruction in the Municipality of Vora, one of the units affected as a result of the devastating earthquake of November 26, 2019, was addressed today.

Citizens, even 5 years after the earthquake, are either in rented apartments, or in cases of inability to pay, have found containers as a solution.

But there are those who live in huts, together with their families, with the hope that one day the promise of having a new home will come true.

"We couldn't afford to pay the rent and ended up in the container.

They didn't bring us even one sack of flour per family, but two houses one sack. A shack with boards will do for us", say the residents of Vora, as they pray to have a home to live happily the years of their remaining life.

From the day they saw everything they had been able to build crumble before their eyes, they remained trapped in an ordeal of pain, unable to recover anything.

In this cold container, four old men live. Bedrie Breti with her husband but also Naxhire Disha with her husband. They were neighbors before the building they lived in collapsed. They have been forced to live as a single family for five years. they have spent 5 winters here and will spend the winter of this year as well, because they no longer hope that they can have their own apartment.

The four old men are trapped in this narrow space, only 15 m2, covered by a tin roof that does not protect them from either the heat or the cold.

"We are not living for 500 years. Two families live together in the container, we were both neighbors there, we came here and became brothers and sisters", says the resident, who used to live in a building that has been demolished.

She could not afford to pay the rent, and together with the neighbor, they ended up in the container.

They live in very difficult conditions, in a small environment, 4 people together. "You can't live with your son in these conditions, but out of trouble we added tins and sheets", says the elderly woman.

In this container they share a tragic reality filled with pain, sadness and hopelessness. They even feel denigrated.

"We took the rags and these mattresses outside because the rain wet them, it rained heavily two nights ago.

I sleep here, my husband there. I don't have the strength to get up there on the bed. We are like in a chicken coop.

The place where we put the container is not ours, he gave us a bin for sevap because four old men were watching us.

He gave it to us for 6 months to 1 year. 5 years have passed and he asked us to get out of here because he will do his own work, I don't know.

He has his own property. We are waiting for the building to be built, that's what they told us then, it will be done quickly, it will be done quickly", says the resident.

But it seems that every week and month that passes, has made these residents watch how the hopes of having a new home fade and the promise of reconstruction turns into an empty word.

Five years after the earthquake, the residents of Marqinet and Marikaj continue to live in unacceptable conditions.

"I don't want to eat or drink or wear anything, I'm completely homesick, two houses on top of the hill, two down there. I have changed four houses to date. The other one comes and tells me to leave the house, where should I go then? Let that house be damaged, you have nothing to say. It's full of water, my child is sick, just because my child is sick at home", says another resident

While another resident adds that they are not asking for alms, but they are looking for an apartment so that they too can live as people.

These citizens in the containers where they are sheltered have memories, happy and painful. Beyond the difficult conditions they have experienced the feeling of becoming a parent, or the elderly have felt how they have become a grandmother or grandfather, for the first time or not.

And they have also experienced weddings, but also sorrows. And for painful occasions, such as funeral ceremonies, there were those who did not know where and how to open the mortuary doors.

"I'm sorry, but his father died in a foreign house, his father died two meters away. There is no greater humiliation than what was done to the village of Marqinet", says the resident

A resident explains that she lost her husband. "My husband died, he hasn't turned a year yet, and we didn't have our house, why? I just want the house", she says.
