"Why are they bullying me?"/ What pushed the 15-year-old from Gjirokastra to end her life, the minor's last letter is revealed

A serious incident shook Gjirokastra yesterday afternoon, when a 15-year-old girl was found hanging in her apartment. Family members discovered the tragic act a few hours later, while it was her father who noticed and notified the emergency services. Doctors determined that the teenager had passed away, leaving behind a chilling letter that has further deepened the shock of the family and the community.
Among the girl's personal belongings, family members found an undated letter written in English, in which she recounted the pain and isolation she felt due to the bullying. "Why are they bullying me?" the 15-year-old wrote, giving a clear signal that she felt excluded and attacked by her peers. This has raised even more doubts about the factors that led her to the fatal act.
According to sources from the investigation, before committing the tragic act, the 15-year-old had left school three times during the day, returning to the apartment, but each time her father was there. Only after finding a moment when she was alone at home, she decided to end her life.
The Gjirokastra Prosecutor's Office has launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances that may have pushed the young woman to suicide. Meanwhile, the incident has reopened the debate on bullying in schools and the lack of psychological support mechanisms for students.
This is the second suicide of a young man in Gjirokastra within a month, raising serious questions about the role and responsibility of educational institutions, including the school psychologist.
Today, as a sign of mourning and solidarity, classes at the girl's high school have been suspended, while family and citizens have accompanied the young woman to her final resting place.
The tragic event once again brings to attention the urgent need for measures against bullying and for strengthening psychological support for young people, so that such cases do not repeat themselves.
