The General Directorate of Prisons has dismissed the director of the Drenova prison and the chief of police of this prison.
The reason for the dismissal of the two officials Fatjon Fasho and Sokol Kacoli was the seizure of a phone in the cell of Laert Haxhiu, a high-security prisoner considered dangerous. SPAK is conducting investigations into the seizure of the phone by examining not only the device, but also by interacting with other authorities, since there are suspicions that the conversations of the strongman of Lushnja were signaled by wiretaps that are being conducted for another ongoing case.
Laert Haxhia is considered the leader of a criminal group with members who committed at least 17 events and crimes that were ordered in different years in Albania. However, the investigations also seem to have indications of drug trafficking issues, which have not yet been finalized.
Haxhiu, otherwise labeled as Aldo Bare's rival, was extradited from Greece, while the court has pronounced a life sentence against him for what is known as the Lushnja massacre. In this event, Zamir Latif and Jurgen Hoxha were killed and two others were injured, while the target was Xhulio Shkurti, the nephew of the former gang leader of this city.
