The University of Tirana supports Albanian students in North Macedonia in using the Albanian language in exams

The University of Tirana has expressed its full support for Albanian students in North Macedonia, who have protested demanding that the jurisprudence exam be held in the Albanian language.

Students, through calls such as "Fillkov resigns" and "The Albanian language is not negotiable", have emphasized that they demand the realization of a fundamental right: the use of the mother tongue in educational and professional processes.

In its response, the University of Tirana assessed that this request represents a legitimate aspiration for equality, dignity and non-discrimination. According to the university, failure to respect this principle could create unnecessary obstacles to students' professional development and undermine trust in state institutions.

The institution also underlined the importance of strengthening linguistic rights and guaranteeing equal standards in education and public life. It called on the responsible bodies to find fair and inclusive solutions, in accordance with the law and the principles of democratic coexistence.

Finally, the university emphasized that respecting linguistic diversity is not only a legal obligation, but also a value that strengthens social cohesion, especially in the context of the region's integration into the European Union. What was denounced as an illegal activity yesterday, today risks becoming a licensed activity. Paradoxically, an online bank licensed by the Bank of Albania has shareholders linked to structures that were previously denounced for illegal financial activity by another Albanian state institution.

It is up to law enforcement institutions to verify the legality of these shareholders, but today it is up to me to raise major concerns regarding the financial security and protection of Albanian citizens.
