Two no-confidence motions/Is France heading towards early elections?
As the government faces the threat of two no-confidence motions, Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has asked Interior Minister Laurent Nunez to consider the possibility of holding early general elections alongside local elections on March 15 and 22, according to several French media outlets .

The move comes after the far-right National Rally (RN) and the radical left-wing party France Unbowed (LFI) filed no-confidence motions against the government, citing its failure to prevent the approval of the EU-Mercosur trade deal.

Both motions are expected to be debated in the National Assembly next week, between Tuesday and Wednesday. If either of them is approved, the government would be dissolved, triggering early elections.

On Friday morning, Lecornu harshly criticized the RN and the LFI for X: "The presentation of a motion of no confidence in this context is a deliberate choice to display internal political disagreements. It is a choice to weaken the voice of France instead of showing national unity in defense of our agriculture."
