"New era in Hungary", Magyar's message after the victory: I will prosecute those who looted and robbed the country

The man who will take over the leadership of Hungary, Péter Magyar, promised that all those who, like him, "robbed, plundered, betrayed, created debts and destroyed" the country will face the consequences of their actions, as he promised "a new era" after a landslide victory over his predecessor Viktor Orbán on Sunday.
Magyar, who represents the center-right Tisza party and won at least 138 of the 199 seats in parliament, said the full election results should be confirmed by May 4 and his cabinet should start work very soon.
" We have no time to waste. We will do everything possible to ensure that this truly marks the beginning of a new era. The Hungarian people did not vote for a simple change of government, but for a complete change of regime, " said Péter Magyar, winner of the Hungarian election.
Magyar, a former Orbán loyalist, secured a two-thirds majority, which could help him implement his vision for a transformation of the country. Viktor Orbán's four successive governments have significantly weakened the rule of law in Hungary, writes The Guardian, where the ousted prime minister had installed judges loyal to him, turned 80% of the media into government mouthpieces and enriched many of his relatives.
Orban, who enjoyed the support of Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, had had repeated clashes with the EU over various policies, including justice, immigration and Ukraine.
Magyar said his government would quickly implement anti-corruption measures, restore judicial independence and ensure media freedom, with the hope of also benefiting from frozen European Union funds.
