Mass violence and fear in the "heart" of France! 150 masked people attack the highway with Molotov cocktails and iron bars, 9 police officers injured
According to authorities, between 100 and 150 individuals participated in this act of violence, which escalated into a direct confrontation with the police on the RN141 road. In an attempt to take control of the area and block traffic, the attackers were confronted by police forces who used tear gas and crowd control devices to disperse them.
According to the local police union, nine officers were injured in the clash. Meanwhile, the prosecution announced that civilian vehicles were also attacked, including cars with families and children inside, but fortunately no injuries were reported among the citizens, although many of them were left traumatized.
The mayor of Limoges, Émile-Roger Lombertie, described the event as an “organized urban war”: “It was not a spontaneous protest. There was no stated reason. It was an act to destroy everything and to show control over the territory,” he said.
The Val de l'Aurence area, which is rumored to be linked to drug trafficking and is inhabited mainly by young people with an immigrant background, was also the scene of riots on the night of July 14, France's national day. However, prosecutor Émilie Abrantes said there is currently no evidence linking the incident to recent drug trafficking investigations in the region.
The French Interior Ministry reacted immediately, announcing the deployment of a special security unit in Limoges to restore order and prevent further escalation.
The event has shocked public opinion and comes at a delicate moment for France, at the height of the tourist season, reviving the debate about security, integration and control over organized violent groups.
