Germany raises suspicions, after every phone call with Trump, Putin launches attacks on Ukraine

Germany is casting strong doubts over whether Donald Trump is capable of serving as a peacemaker in the conflict in Ukraine. Chancellor Friedrich Merz sees a connection between Russian President Vladimir Putin's phone call with US President Donald Trump and the massive airstrikes that followed in Ukraine.
The chancellor has repeatedly stated in recent days "that there is a pattern with the Russian president and that the phone calls are usually accompanied by even harsher attacks," government spokesman Stefan Kornelius said in Berlin. "What happened last night supported or reinforced this impression," he said.
The massive attacks on Ukraine after the phone call speak for themselves, said Cornelius. He hoped this would contribute to "a decision-making process regarding the stance towards Russia, especially regarding sanctions." So far, US President Trump has not complied with EU demands to tighten sanctions against Russia.
Russia attacked the Ukrainian capital Kiev with dozens of combat drones. "According to preliminary information, we have several fires in the Solomyanka district," the head of the military administration, Tymur Tkachenko, wrote on Telegram. All the fires involved residential buildings. One man was injured. Damage caused by drones was also detected in at least four other districts. Anti-aircraft fire was heard in the city area for hours.
According to the Ukrainian Air Force, the Russian military shot down 550 drones and missiles. Of the 539 drones launched by Russia, 268 were intercepted and two of the eleven missiles were destroyed. The Russian military also launched at least one Kinzhal (Dagger) hypersonic missile.
Ballistic and cruise missiles were also fired in waves at targets in and around Kiev. According to unconfirmed reports, a key target was the Vasylkiv military air base south of the city of three million.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha also considered the renewed attacks a clear sign that Moscow has no interest in peace. "Right after Putin spoke with President Trump," Sybiha wrote in online media on Friday.
"And he is doing this deliberately. Putin is clearly demonstrating his complete disregard for the United States and all those who call for an end to the war." Ukraine has resisted Russian aggression for more than three years and has repeatedly asked its Western allies to strengthen their air defenses.
