President Trump's envoy meets with Zelensky today for final talks on the war in Ukraine

US President Donald Trump's envoy will travel to Germany this weekend to meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and European leaders for the latest round of high-level talks to end the war.
Steve Witkoff, who has led the White House's efforts to mediate between Ukraine and Russia, will discuss the latest version of the proposed peace agreement in Berlin.
The Trump administration wants the deal to be in place by Christmas and has held several rounds of talks with Ukrainian and Russian representatives in recent weeks, though there have been few signs that major progress is imminent.
It has not yet been confirmed which European leaders will participate in the Berlin talks.
The Wall Street Journal, which first reported details of the meeting, said that UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron and German Chancellor Friedrich Merz will attend.
Confirmation of the Witkoff-Zelensky meeting comes days after Ukraine gave the US its revised version of a 20-point peace plan, the latest version of a proposal that first emerged in late November and has sparked a flurry of diplomatic activity.
The fate of territory in eastern Ukraine remains one of the most difficult topics in the negotiations, with Kiev refusing to relinquish the occupied land, and Moscow reiterating its intention to take the entire Donbas region by force if Ukraine does not withdraw.
