President Trump's speech in Congress was interrupted by a resolution condemning the Democratic lawmaker's behavior

The House of Representatives on Thursday passed a resolution condemning the behavior of Democratic lawmaker Al Green, who interrupted President Donald Trump's speech before Congress.
House Speaker Mike Johnson ordered Rep. Green removed from the floor during the first part of President Trump's State of the Union address Tuesday night. Rep. Green stood up and loudly protested after President Trump said the Nov. 5 election had given him a broad mandate.
"You have no mandate," said the Texas lawmaker, who did not stop even after Speaker Johnson told him to sit down.
Republican lawmakers moved quickly to condemn Rep. Green's actions, drafting a resolution that serves as a formal record of their colleague's behavior. When such a resolution is passed by a majority vote, the lawmaker in question is asked to stand in the middle of the chamber while the speaker reads the resolution to him.
The vote on the resolution was generally along party lines, with 224 votes in favor and 198 against.
Rep. Green, now in his 11th term, showed no remorse Wednesday as he explained his actions. Before speaking in his own defense from the House floor, he crossed to the Republican side of the House and shook the hand of Rep. Dan Newhouse, who authored the resolution. Rep. Green said he doesn't blame Speaker Johnson or those who escorted him out of the chamber.
"Friends, I would do it again," said legislator Green.
He explained his actions by saying that President Trump had said he had won a mandate from voters. But Rep. Green said President Trump does not have a mandate to cut the Medicaid health insurance program, a program that many of his voters rely on.
"It's a matter of principle. It's a matter of conscience," said Rep. Green. "There are people suffering in this country because they don't have health insurance."
President Trump said last week when asked about the federal health insurance program: "We're not going to touch it."/ VOA
