Putin's condition for peace in Ukraine: International recognition of Donbass as Russian

A new round of trilateral talks is taking place in Abu Dhabi, in an attempt to reach an agreement that would lead to an end to the war in Ukraine.

According to international media, Russia has presented a new condition for ending the conflict: international recognition of the Donbas region as part of Russia. This condition includes the requirement that “all countries” participating in the negotiations accept the new status of Donbas.

The round of talks, involving the United States, Ukraine and Russia, began on Wednesday, February 4, and lasted about five hours. The meetings continue today as the sides try to find a diplomatic solution to the long-running conflict.

Analysts warn that Moscow's new condition could become a major obstacle to reaching a quick agreement, further complicating the negotiation process.
