Marco Rubio heads to Munich Conference, warns Europe of "new era" in geopolitics

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has warned that the world is entering a new geopolitical phase as he travels to Europe to attend the Munich Security Conference.
Rubio will lead the US delegation to the important international forum, which comes at a time of tension in transatlantic relations. His statements come after US President Donald Trump's stances on Danish sovereignty and his promise to annex Greenland.
"The world is changing very quickly before us. We are living in a new era in geopolitics, and this will require all of us to reconsider our role," Rubio told reporters, when asked if his message to Europeans would be more conciliatory compared to a year ago.
On the eve of the conference, French President Emmanuel Macron stressed that Europe must prepare for more independence from the US, while NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte underlined that transatlantic ties remain strong and essential.
