Trump's sudden change towards Putin: He is killing people, US ready to send

In a surprise U.S. move, President Donald Trump said the United States would resume sending defensive weapons to Ukraine, ending a suspension announced on July 2. The announcement came during a state dinner at the White House in honor of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"Putin is not treating people well. He is killing a lot of people," Trump said in a press statement, explaining that the goal is to support Ukraine with defensive weapons. Meanwhile, he did not spare criticism of the Russian leader: "Putin says a lot of nonsense about Ukraine. He is always nice, but that does not mean anything."

The statement contrasts with the Pentagon's previous stance, which had halted military aid to preserve US stockpiles. In fact, in a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky on July 4, Trump reportedly said he was unaware of the suspension and considered it a decision made independently by the Pentagon.

What now? The White House is now ready to send 10 Patriot interceptor missiles to Ukraine, one of Kiev's most urgent requests in months.

According to Axios sources, the US administration is also pressuring Germany to hand over its Patriot batteries, which require Washington's approval for any international move or sale. German Chancellor Merz has personally contacted Trump on the issue, but while no concrete agreement has been reached, negotiations between the two sides are still ongoing.

On the Ukrainian side, Zelensky has called for political statements to be translated as soon as possible into concrete actions to protect the country's people and territory. The Ukrainian president has tasked his Defense Minister with strengthening communication with Washington, emphasizing that support for air defense systems is crucial.

Meanwhile, the reaction from Moscow has been cautious.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that the delivery of American weapons does not help in a peaceful resolution of the conflict, questioning the various messages coming from the US. However, he directly accused European countries of helping to prolong the war through this strategy.

In a parallel reaction, French President Emmanuel Macron, during a state visit to London, declared before the British Parliament that "We Europeans will never abandon Kiev," confirming continued support from the West.

The war continues, but the political battles for strategy and leadership in the West are no less "fiery".
