"Pay 2.5 billion pounds or I will take you to court", British Prime Minister's message to Abramovich

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has sent a message to Russian oligarch Roman Abramovich, asking him to transfer £2.5 billion from the sale of Chelsea Football Club.

Abramovich pledged in 2022 that the proceeds from the sale of the club would be used to support victims of the war in Ukraine, but this has not happened, as the money has remained frozen in a bank account.

Starmer said the UK had issued a license allowing the money to be transferred, but warned that legal action would be taken if Abramovich failed to meet his commitment.

"My message to Abramovich is clear: the clock is ticking. Honor the commitment you have made and pay now. If not, we are prepared to go to court to ensure that every penny reaches those whose lives have been destroyed by Putin's illegal war."
