''Before being handcuffed, he would surrender...''/ Greece

An espionage scandal has rocked the Greek Armed Forces, raising alarm for national and NATO security. A senior officer of the Greek Air Force, around 50 years old, was arrested this morning inside the unit where he served, suspected of collecting and transmitting secret military information to a third country, specifically China.

According to information published by Greek media, the officer had access to classified NATO plans, which are considered critical for national security and the Euro-Atlantic alliance. Sources close to the General Staff indicate that he was acting on behalf of a foreign state and was arrested shortly before handing over a significant amount of sensitive data.

The officer served in the 128th Telecommunications and Electronics Training Group of the Air Force, in the Kavouri area, a key position that guaranteed him direct access to confidential information. He is charged with the serious criminal offense of “collection and transmission of secret information of military importance to third parties,” a serious violation of the Military Criminal Code.

Investigations show that the officer was placed under strict surveillance by the Greek National Intelligence Service (NIS), in collaboration with military personnel specialized in counterintelligence, for at least a month. During this period, evidence considered very strong was collected, which led to the immediate intervention of the authorities.

According to Greek media, the arrested man is suspected of using the encrypted Signal app to communicate, systematically deleting messages to leave no trace and make it more difficult to detect his illegal activity.

The arrest was made after a meticulously planned operation involving a prosecutor, NIS agents and specialized counterintelligence officers. The officer is currently in custody and being questioned by authorities, while investigations continue to uncover whether there are other individuals involved or wider espionage networks.

In an official statement, the Greek National Defense General Staff confirmed the arrest, stressing that the suspected actions pose a serious threat to the country's national interests and military security.
