Facing the economic and energy crisis/ EU two million euros in support for Cuba

The European Union will provide 2 million euros in humanitarian aid to the people of Cuba, as they suffer from an energy crisis.

"The EU stands with the people of Cuba," said Crisis Management Commissioner Haja Labib earlier.

Cuba has been facing a severe economic crisis for years, which has worsened in the past three months due to a US-imposed oil embargo. Cuba lost its main ally and supplier in January when the US military seized Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. Caracas had been Cuba's main supplier of fuel for 25 years.

The European Commission said EU funding will be provided to humanitarian organizations for the distribution of food and drinking water.

"In a country facing an energy crisis and growing shortages, the funding will help continue to provide life-saving assistance to up to two million people in need," Labib said.
