WHO: Albania, significant decrease in child mortality

Albania is among the countries that have significantly reduced mortality among children aged 0-5. World Health Organization data shows that between 1990 and 2000, fatalities in this age group were halved.

While in 2024 there was no loss of life among children in this age group. In 2024, the world lost about 4.9 million children before their fifth birthday.

Infant mortality patterns vary significantly by age. Among newborns, deaths are mainly caused by premature birth, complications during birth, and neonatal infections.

These are conditions that can be significantly reduced through quality prenatal, intrapartum, and postnatal care.

Preventable infectious diseases continue to claim millions of young lives. For children aged 1-59 months, pneumonia, diarrhea and malaria remain the leading killers, often exacerbated by malnutrition.

For the first time, the WHO report estimates deaths directly caused by severe acute malnutrition, revealing that more than 100,000 children aged 1-5 died from it in 2024./ Tv Klan
