Major floods in northern Italy

Heavy rains and powerful storms have hit the Lombardy region since this morning, causing a number of problems in major cities such as Milan and Como.

As a result of extreme weather conditions, 13 flights have been diverted to Orio al Serio airport in Bergamo, due to the inability to land at Milan airports.

Italian authorities have issued an orange alert for strong storms, as Lake Como has overflowed its banks, flooding surrounding areas and creating difficulties for road traffic.

The situation has also worsened in the Seveso basin, which has been activated to cope with the high water levels. In the town of Lentate, two families have been evacuated as a precaution due to the risk of flooding.

Authorities are on the ground and are closely monitoring the situation, while citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary movement and follow official announcements for the latest developments.
