The driver of the vehicle has been arrested, police said on platform X. The arrested man is a 53-year-old British man from the Liverpool area. Investigations are ongoing. The circumstances surrounding the incident are still unclear. The incident occurred as fans were celebrating the victory of the Liverpool FC football club. Images of the incident were shared on social media.

Multiple emergency services attended the scene. North West Ambulance Service said: "We are assessing the situation and working with other emergency services. Our priority is to ensure people receive the medical attention they need as soon as possible."

Nearly a million people were expected to take part in this victory celebration. At 18:00 local time, police received reports of an accident. Initially, there was talk of a pedestrian accident. Sky News television quoted an eyewitness who spoke of people screaming. A car had driven into the crowd of people.
