Nikos Kazantzakis Airport in Heraklion is closed
At Heraklion airport, protests by farmers and livestock keepers continued with intensity. Some of them managed to penetrate the runway of the "Nikos Kazantzakis" airport, forcing authorities to suspend the airport's activities until further notice.
The Heraklion Police Department announced that due to agricultural protests, vehicle traffic is prohibited in:
the segment of the Northern Road Axis of Crete from the Kallithea junction to the Kastelli junction
the old segment of the Heraklion–Agios Nikolaos highway, from the Karteros–Episkopi intersection to the L. Ikarou–Karterou intersection
Traffic will be diverted as follows:
From Agios Nikolaos to Heraklion: vehicles will exit at Hersonissos and follow the national road Heraklion–Kastelli towards Kastelli–Peza–Heraklion.
From Rethymno to Agios Nikolaos: vehicles will be diverted towards the Kazantzidis exit and via the Heraklion–Peza provincial road will continue towards Peza–Kastelli–Hersonisos–BOAK–Agios Nikolaos.
Authorities appeal to drivers to follow police instructions to ensure safe and orderly traffic.
