Putin doesn't ask about "friendship"/ He dismisses loyalist

Russian President Vladimir Putin has removed his loyalist, Sergei Ivanov, from his post on the Security Council.

Ivanov, 73, is one of Putin's oldest allies. They served together in the Leningrad KGB. In 2001-2007 he was Russia's defense minister, then first deputy prime minister, and from 2011 to 2016 he headed the presidential administration.

Before the 2008 elections, Ivanov was seen as a possible successor. But United Russia nominated Dmitry Medvedev instead. On February 16, Ivanov left the Security Council. Earlier, he was dismissed from his post as presidential envoy “at his own request.”
