The US warns: Russia may use the "Oreshnik IRBM" missile in Ukraine

The United States of America has warned that Russia may use the experimental missile over Ukraine.
A senior US official has indicated that Russia could use its Oreshnik IRBM in Ukraine "in the coming days" in an attempt to intimidate Ukraine and its supporters.
"We assess that Oreshnik does not change the game on the battlefield, but only another attempt by Russia to terrorize Ukraine, which will fail," the official said.
Russia has only a handful of Oreshnik missiles, which carry a smaller warhead than other missiles regularly fired at Ukraine, the official added.
"Ukraine has resisted all previous Russian missile attacks and Ukraine will resist any future use of the Oreshnik," the official said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin announced last month that his forces had fired on Oreshnik for the first time, a move that came just days after the US allowed Ukraine to fire long-range missiles into Russia.
The missile launch hit a military command center in Ukraine, Putin claimed, saying the missile could reach speeds of Mach 10, or more than 7,000 mph.
IRBMs can hit targets up to 3,500 miles away.
The official said on Wednesday that they were focused on sending more air defense missiles to Ukraine so that Kiev could respond to the full range of Russian missiles and drones.
