
Coal mine explosion kills at least 5 in Spain


Five people were killed and four others injured in an explosion at a coal mine in northern Spain.
The incident occurred at the Cerredo mine in Degana, where firefighters, mine rescue teams and police attended the scene.
The regional government of Asturias said two of the injured were transported to Ponferrada, a city in the neighboring autonomous region of Castilla y Leon, for medical treatment. Another injured individual, who suffered a head injury, was taken to Cangas del Narcea in Asturias.
According to Asturias emergency services, two people were uninjured in the accident.
Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez expressed his "sincere condolences" to the families of the victims, wishing a "speedy recovery" to the injured.
"I want to thank the emergency services who are working on the rescue operation," he wrote on the social network X.
