At least 1 casualty in new US airstrikes on Yemeni port

At least one person was killed and another was wounded on Wednesday evening in new US airstrikes on Yemen's Salif port in the Red Sea city of Hodeidah, Houthi media reported.

The port, which is used to import fuel, has been frequently targeted by US and Israeli airstrikes in recent months in retaliation for Houthi attacks on Israeli-linked ships transiting the Red Sea.

The bombardment of Hodeidah coincided with a series of other airstrikes targeting several locations in the capital, Sanaa, and the northern province of Saada.

According to the Houthi-run al-Masirah TV, one airstrike hit a car in the Kuhaza area on the southern outskirts of Sanaa, while 17 other airstrikes targeted the Kahlan military camp in the eastern part of the central city of Saada. No casualties were reported.

The new wave of US airstrikes came hours after the Houthi group announced it had launched multiple missile strikes against the US aircraft carrier USS Harry S. Truman in the northern Red Sea. The US Navy, stationed in the region, has not yet commented on the alleged Houthi attack.

Tensions between the Houthis and the US military have escalated since Washington launched new airstrikes in Yemen on March 15.

The Houthis, who control most of northern Yemen, have launched regular missile and drone attacks against Israel and have cut off “Israeli-related” shipping in the Red Sea since November 2023 to show solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza amid their conflict with the Israelis.
