"Why should citizens vote again", Berisha in Opinion: I am not

The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, answered on the show "Opinion" the question "why should we vote for him" in the May 11 elections.

As he recalled 2013 when he resigned as leader of the DP and entrusted it to Lulzim Basha, the Democrat leader said that he will not return because he has ambitions for wealth, power, or luxury.

He also emphasized that his return came as a result of being declared "persona non grata" by the US, a sanction that, according to him, forced him to return to protect the opposition.

Blendi Fevziu:  People say we gave Berisha a first chance, he left, we gave him a second chance... Why again?! Why this comeback?

Sali Berisha:  Absolutely not for ambition, for fame, money, luxury, because I, the honorable one, on June 26, 2013, said goodbye and left, not with any great regret.

Blendi Fevziu :  He left the car, but he kept his license!

Sali Berisha:  I have spent 40 or so years of dictatorship and people as leaders for a long time should not have! So I, Fatos Nano, resigned. The return, no, it was not mine, It was an imposition, in which there were national and individual motives. At a certain moment, without any basis, I was declared non-grata because Rama lobbied with Soros. They lobbied, I never lobbied. This was a very serious injury to my dignity, but not only mine. I was a former President, a former Prime Minister, with all the positives and negatives, I was the man that this people had voted for. When on September 9, it was requested that Berisha not enter Parliament… It was then no longer Sali Berisha's, Berisha was protecting the opposition.

But has Berisha morally won this "battle"?

"In an artificial test tube we can put things like this, but in this situation it cannot be put like this. It is not a battle that has been definitively won. Let's take these months. Elections will be held in a country where leaders of 3 opposition parties are arrested or in criminal proceedings,"  he said in "Opinion".
