Various international and Arab media outlets have published extensive reports on a multi-year espionage operation by the Israeli secret service Mossad inside Iran, which they say involved hundreds of recruited agents, covert operations, and extensive technological surveillance.
According to these reports, the Israeli intelligence operation has lasted for more than three decades and has involved infiltrating Iranian military and state structures, using various methods such as wiretapping, social media analysis, the use of algorithms to identify targets, and hacking traffic cameras and telecommunications antennas.
At the center of the allegations is the name of Revolutionary Guard General and Quds Force commander Ismail Qaani. According to Arab media, he was executed on Friday by Iranian authorities after being suspected of collaborating with Mossad.
Reports claim that Qaani had participated in several meetings with important figures from organizations considered enemies of Israel and that some of them were killed by Israeli army operations or by Mossad shortly after these meetings, which raised suspicions among Iranian authorities.
According to media sources, the Iranian general had escaped several suspected Israeli attacks in recent years. Suspicions against him increased after he was present at meetings with senior regional leaders who were subsequently targeted by Israeli strikes.
Some reports also speak of a broad intelligence operation that involved cooperation between Mossad and the elite Israeli intelligence unit 8200, which deals with electronic interception and cyber operations. According to international media, this unit is also suspected of using big data analysis and artificial intelligence to identify targets.
The reports also mention a vast network of informants and agents recruited inside Iran, including civilians and refugees who helped gather information on military officials and scientists linked to the Iranian nuclear program.
However, many of these claims remain officially unconfirmed. Iranian and Israeli authorities have not provided detailed comments on the reports, while some security experts emphasize that some of the information may include speculative or unverified elements.
Israel and Iran have been engaged for years in a covert intelligence war involving sabotage, cyberattacks and assassinations of figures linked to the Iranian nuclear program, a conflict that often takes place away from public attention.
