Trump-Putin call/BBC: A partial ceasefire may be close, but there is still much to do

Both the Russian and American sides have put a positive spin on Tuesday's long phone call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, the BBC reports.
This is good news for the US president, who has touted his unique ability to broker a deal between warring nations. While he was able to pressure Ukraine to agree to a ceasefire, he expressed optimism that Russia also wanted peace — and would soon demonstrate that.
Trump appears to have reached at least a partial ceasefire, including attacks on energy infrastructure and hopes for more to come, along with a prisoner exchange. Trump quickly took to social media to celebrate what he called a “very good and productive” conversation with his Russian counterpart.
However, there are several significant obstacles that the US president will need to address. Russia is demanding that the US halt arms shipments to Ukraine and that the nation end its "forced mobilization" - effectively denying it the manpower and weapons to continue military operations, the BBC writes.
And as we have seen in Gaza, ceasefires do not always lead to lasting peace.
It is unlikely that Ukraine – or its European allies – would agree to concessions that would put it at a greater disadvantage to Russia if fighting were to resume.
Trump may be encouraged by today's phone call, but he still has significant work to do.
