Ukraine: Massive drone attacks on main Moscow oil refinery, flights suspended at

A Ukrainian drone attack has hit Moscow's main oil refinery, causing a fire at the facility and forcing Russian authorities to temporarily suspend operations at the capital's four main airports.

The incident occurred at a time when Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky was attending the G7 summit in France, giving the incident particular political and military significance.

The strike is considered strategically important, as the Kapotnya refinery supplies up to 40% of Moscow's fuel market and covers about 70% of the capital and the surrounding region's gasoline needs. The attack comes despite increased security measures and strengthening of air defenses around Moscow in recent months. Material damage was also reported in other areas of the Moscow region. According to Russian authorities, fragments of the downed drones hit a residential building in Elektrostal, while another drone crashed into a building under construction in the Kotelniki district.

Unconfirmed reports from Ukrainian sources indicate that the attacks also targeted a large fuel storage facility in the village of Poltava in the Krasnodar region, as well as the Palkino pumping station on the Baltic pipeline system in the Yaroslavl region. Ukrainian attacks on Russian energy infrastructure have intensified in recent months in an attempt to hit the fuel supply chain and increase the economic costs of the war for Moscow.

From France, where he was attending the G7 summit, President Volodymyr Zelensky publicly thanked the armed forces and security services of Ukraine for the operation. “I thank the fighters of the Security Service of Ukraine, the Unmanned Systems Forces, the Special Operations Forces, the Military Intelligence Service and the Missile Forces for their effective action,” Zelensky declared.
