Zelensky warns NATO allies about Russian threat ahead of Hague summit

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy warned European NATO members on Tuesday that they risk being attacked by Russia if it is not defeated in Ukraine, urging them to heed US calls to sign off on a big new spending target for the alliance at a summit.

President Volodymyr Zelensky called on NATO countries on Tuesday to support Ukraine's defense industry, speaking ahead of a summit that is likely to consider US calls to sign off on a major new spending target for the alliance.

US President Donald Trump, on his way to the summit in the Netherlands, separately criticized Spain after Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez declared that Madrid did not need to meet the spending target that the Americans have demanded.

The two-day meeting is intended to signal to Russian President Vladimir Putin that NATO is united, despite Trump's previous criticism of the alliance, and determined to expand and improve its defenses to deter any attack from Moscow.
