Where will Albanians 'escape' for the holidays?

We are just a few days away from New Year's Eve, but Albanian citizens seem to already have their plans in place for where they will celebrate.

Domestically and abroad, tourist agencies and operators state that reservations are confirmed at around 90%, while Albanians' favorite destinations are numerous.

From the region, to Europe, to Santa's house in Lapland, these are some of the most favorite destinations of Albanians.

" I would prefer to have the focus within the country, but the trend of traveling abroad continues, mainly to destinations with the largest emigration: Greece, Italy, Germany, Turkey ," says Feriold Ozuni, Tourism Expert.

" We have an increase in the number of Albanians by about 25% who claim to spend their holidays abroad. But there are also those who prefer distant places, such as Dubai, the Maldives and Lapland ," says Jetmira Hoxha, Tourism Expert.

While travel agencies are overflowing with offers, year-end tickets and packages are more expensive. Prices have increased by up to 20%, with, for example, packages to Europe per person ranging from 345 to 500 euros.

On the other hand, for those citizens who prefer to stay within the country, reservations are almost closed. The capital this year will not be Tirana, according to tour operators.

" Mainly for the end of the year, every Albanian when thinking of leaving for a weekend heads to the southeast. For the celebration of New Year's Eve, the Adriatic coast also has a big role. Often there are activities not only with songs and dances, but also with comedians. Durrës, perhaps this year, will take the main role from Tirana ," adds Ozuni.

It's not just Albanians who are choosing Albania for the end of the year. A growing interest has also been noticed by foreign tourists.

" The end of the year is busy. We have noticed foreigners coming individually. Albania is being preferred even in the off-season ," emphasizes Hoxha.

Bookings, both domestically and internationally, according to tourist agencies, are also high for January, mainly to snowy destinations. /tch
