"Average pension, below the subsistence minimum", expert: The material

This morning on "Time to Wake Up" was pension expert Ramadan Kondi.

He emphasized the economic difficulties that pensioners face today, given that the average pension they receive is below the calculated subsistence minimum.

According to the expert, the depreciation of the euro also has an impact, as remittances sent to the elderly by children abroad no longer have the same value.

"The average pension is below the subsistence minimum, it is 19 thousand lek. We must accept a serious fact, that the material well-being of pensioners has been decreasing, not increasing.

This is easily understood by citizens, as prices are twice as high as they were 10 years ago, while pensions are not twice as high as they were 10 years ago.

"Remittances also have an impact on well-being. The euro has depreciated by over 30 percent and remittances from children no longer have the same value. Today, we have over 1 million citizens at the poverty level, below the subsistence minimum," he said.
