Prime Minister Edi Rama has concluded his speech at the United Nations, where he was all focused on Artificial Intelligence and the damage it brings today to our lives and the security of countries and citizens.
Meanwhile, what is noticeable is that while the head of government was giving his speech, the hall was almost empty. Even the prime minister, at the last moment of his speech, said: This is where my preaching in the desert ends and the hope I have is the only one I can rely on.
Excerpt from Rama's speech:
Today in Europe we are running around like crazy throwing money we don't have to defend the lands and skies for a possible war.
In the centuries we live in, this must mean the ability of a free society to protect the conditions under which citizens form bad opinions, otherwise security is just an illusion. Today, freedom of speech is being violated by the use of freedom of distribution as a weapon.
The word belongs to the human being but the distribution can be bought and placed where they want. When a lie is multiplied millions of times the truth is buried. Freedom of speech can be defeated without even deleting a single post.
Defending democracy means exposing hidden powers that want to control what citizens will see.
"Limiting or banning AI is not the solution. We cannot regulate ourselves to the point of helplessness. We must not stop but accelerate," says Trump.
The answer is not technological surrender but better intelligence in the hands of those in charge.
Lies and algorithms don't need passports and borders. It's not a race between humans and machines.
We as Albania have chosen not to surrender but to accelerate. This is where my preaching in the desert ends and the hope I have is the only one I can rely on.
