Hit his head during a football match, 16-year-old Albanian dies in Greece

A tragic event has shocked football in Kavala, Greece, after a 16-year-old footballer of Albanian origin lost his life after suffering a serious head injury during a match on the island of Thassos.
Asllan Gjana, part of the Byronas Kavala team, was playing against Aiandas Panagias in a second-tier match of the Kavala Football Association, when in the second minute of the match he was seriously injured. During a duel for the ball, the 16-year-old went off the field and hit the back of his head on the stadium fence. After the collision, he lost consciousness. The match was immediately stopped and the player was given first aid by the match doctor. The emergency medical service was also called to the scene, while due to his serious condition, immediate transportation to the hospital was decided.
The 16-year-old was taken to Kavala Hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the doctors' efforts, he did not survive. The news has caused great pain to his family, teammates and the sports community in Kavala.
The Byronas Kavala club reacted with a touching message to the passing of its footballer. “With unbearable pain and indescribable sadness, the athletic family of Byron Kavala says goodbye to one of its children,” the club’s response reads. “Byron of Kavala is in mourning, having lost one of its children. Have a safe journey, our son, you will live forever in our hearts,” the message continues.
