Sad/ The famous American writer, Paul Auster, passed away at the age of 77

American writer Paul Auster, who wrote the New York trilogy of mystery novels, has died at the age of 77.
Auster wrote more than 30 books in his career and achieved cult status in the 80s and 90s.
His novels were often existentialist stories about people who felt alien and were particularly successful in Europe.
The writer died Tuesday at his home in Brooklyn of complications from lung cancer, friend and author Jacki Lyden confirmed.
In March 2023, Auster's wife, writer Siri Hustvedt, announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer.
The son of Polish Jewish immigrants, Auster grew up in Newark, New Jersey, then moved to New York to study at Columbia University.
After graduating, he spent four years in France, where he honed his craft as a writer.
The sudden death of his father inspired Auster to write The Invention of Solitude in 1982, a fascinating reflection on the relationship between fathers and sons that later became a recurring theme in his work.
But his fame would come with the New York Trilogy, a philosophical musing on the detective genre that centers on a mysterious quartet of private investigators called Blue, Broën, Black and White.
His later works include Timbuktu and the existentialist masterpieces Moon Palace, The Music of Chance and Leviathan.
Auster was praised for his witty dialogue and his books have been translated into more than 40 languages.
In addition, Auster wrote the screenplay for the 1995 film Smoke, a film about a tobacco shop, starring Harvey Keitel, which also won an Independent Spirit Award.
He also directed the follow-up film, Blue in the Face, which again starred Keitel.
In 2017, Auster published the 866-page novel 4321, which scanned American society through the life of an ordinary man, Archie Ferguson.
The author considered it his masterpiece, although he did not receive good reviews from critics.
Last year, Auster published Bloodbath Nation, with his photographer son-in-law Spencer Ostrader, which focused on gun violence in America.
Auster's text was accompanied by black-and-white photographs from the sites of 30 mass crime scenes.
In recent years, Auster's life has been struck by tragedy with his 10-month-old granddaughter Ruby dying after ingesting heroin and his son Daniel, the child's father dying of an overdose 10 months later.
Before his death, Daniel was found guilty of involuntary manslaughter. Auster never publicly discussed their deaths.
