Science reveals why there are more serial killers of men than women

For several years in the field of criminology, neuroscientists from all over the world have been studying the human brain and trying to identify the causes that push certain subjects to commit atrocities like that of murder.

From these studies it turned out that there really is a scientific explanation and it is found in our DNA.

What does this mean?

Our actions can be commanded by something stronger than the will itself.

The research revealed two genes as the main causes of these neurological imbalances: the first is a gene called CDH13, a special variant of which is linked to autism, schizophrenia and ADHD (Attention Deficit / Hyperactivity Disorder).

The second gene, called MAO-A, is found in the shortest part of the X chromosome and is an enzyme that regulates the activity of neurotransmitters like serotonin and dopamine (also known as happiness hormones).

In practice, those who have these two variants, especially in the case of the MAO-A gene, will be more likely to develop violent and aggressive behaviors, usually apparent already at a young age.

These subjects will also tend to become increasingly apathetic, to the point of committing cruel acts without the slightest remorse.

However the analysis shows a curiosity.

These two genes appear to involve only those that have a single copy of the X chromosome causing a high concentration of the enzyme MAO-A to be created.

In contrast, in those who have two copies of the X chromosome (as in women), the enzyme is almost distributed.

This (probably) explains why there is a higher rate of male serial criminals compared to female.
