How a World War II ship was turned into a floating forest

The bottom of the ocean is littered with the remains of various ships. Some are pulled out of the water to be researched on land, with most having to be discovered while some are pulled out of the water to be researched on land, while others are left in place to become home to aquatic species.
However, in Homebush Bay, near Sydney in Australia, an old ship serves an entirely different purpose, attracting visitors from around the world who come to photograph the beautiful and unusual sight. And this is none other than a Homebush Bay floating forest.
The century-old ship SS Ayrfield has been turned into a verdant forest on its derelict deck, with trees covering most of the ship, creating a fantastic sight – whether in daylight or at night.

The story behind the unusual appearance
Homebush Bay, although beautiful now, was once a dumping ground for ships and junk. The presence of so many pollutants in the water has led to a ban on fishing in most of Sydney Harbour. But in the 1980s, changes were made to restore the area and the bay began to "heal".
So much so that, as grunge.com reports, mangrove wetlands and salt flats have returned. And some of those mangroves ended up in Ayrfield creating the floating forest.
What the Ayrfield boat did before it became Instagram famous
Built in 1911 in the United Kingdom, the SS Aryfield was a steel ship used to transport supplies for American troops in the Pacific during World War II, according to Amusing Planet. After the war, the ship was used in private industry until it was decommissioned in 1972.

Of all the amazing Sydney attractions like the Opera House and Royal Botanic Gardens, Urban List recommends making sure Homebush Bay Floating Forest is on your 'to-see list'. The site suggests its readers visit either at sunrise or sunset for the best view./ Amusingplanet.com
