The chrysanthemum, or as it is otherwise known, the Autumn Flower, is one of the most popular flowers in the world, ranking second after the rose.
Its name comes from ancient Greek. Chrysos translates to gold and anthemon translates to flower. In the world there are over 40 wild species of flowers and thousands of other varieties cultivated by man.
The Autumn Flower was first cultivated in China and the earliest traces of this practice date back to the 15th century BC.
Only after two centuries, this flower was finally introduced to the West.
Interesting symbolism of the autumn flower
Depending on the color and different cultures, the chrysanthemum symbolizes happiness, joy, love but also sadness. In some European countries, this flower symbolizes death and is therefore used mainly in funeral ceremonies.
In the United States, this flower has a joyful and positive symbolism.
In China, the chrysanthemum is part of the elite group of flowers that bears the name "Four Ladies" where they include: plum blossom, bamboo and orchid which in themselves represent the four seasons.
The orchid represents spring, the bamboo represents summer, the chrysanthemum autumn and the plum blossom winter.
The chrysanthemum is also considered a symbol of the throne and the imperial seal in Japan. In honor of this flower, the Festival of Happiness is also organized in Japan.
