NATO forces increase their presence in Lake Ujman

NATO forces have increased their presence in strategic points in Kosovo, where information about acts of destabilization is greater. One of them is Lake Ujman, a point of constant conflict between Kosovo and Serbia.

The Italian forces, part of the Operational Reserve Battalion deployed in the north of Kosovo as part of the KFOR mission led by NATO, conducted specific training in Lake Ujman. Over a period of four hours, the lagoon platoon simulated a patrol with other combined amphibious activities and also simulated a landing in an unsanctioned environment.

KFOR continues to implement its UN mandate to ensure a safe and secure environment for all communities living in Kosovo and freedom of movement; at any time and impartially.

Since the attack in Banjska, KFOR forces have been reinforced with around 1000 troops, as well as heavy vehicles, and have increased their activity along the Kosovo-Serbia border.

Lying in the north of Kosovo, on the border with Serbia, Lake Ujman, which is also known as Lake Gazivoda, is the most important watershed for the economy of Kosovo.

In the economic agreement signed by Kosovo and Serbia on September 4, 2020 in Washington, Prishtina and Belgrade agreed to work with the American Government on a feasibility study for Ujman Lake, with the aim of joint use of this reservoir as a supplier of water and energy.
