Kosovo, Imri Demelezi appointed acting Minister of Agriculture

Imri Demelezin has been appointed acting Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Development of Kosovo, the Government of Kosovo announced.

In this position, he replaces Faton Peci, who will take over as mayor of the Municipality of South Mitrovica.

The task was handed over to Peci himself, whom Demelezi thanked for his "work, commitment and results achieved."

Demelezi from the Vetëvendosje Movement of the incumbent Prime Minister, Albin Kurti, until now held the position of Deputy Minister of Agriculture.

"Taking the position of acting minister is a great responsibility, which I will carry out with even greater dedication. Knowing the work from the inside and professional preparation throughout my life only in the agricultural sector from different positions, gives me the certainty that together with the team, ministerial staff and other stakeholders at home and abroad we will achieve concrete results that affect the lives of each of you," he wrote on Facebook.

Peci won the race for South Mitrovica in the runoff round held on November 9, when he faced the Democratic Party of Kosovo candidate, Arian Tahiri.

Since the regular parliamentary elections of February 9, the incumbent Government of Kosovo has undergone several changes, as Albulena Haxhiu left the Ministry of Justice after being elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly, as did Emilja Rexhepi, who left the post of Deputy Prime Minister after being elected Deputy Speaker of the Assembly. Liburn Aliu, meanwhile, resigned from the post of Minister of Infrastructure, and Hysen Durmishi was appointed in his place.

Kurti has also dismissed the Deputy Minister of Regional Development, Elldin Uglari.

After months of political deadlock, in late August, MPs constituted a new parliamentary composition, paving the way for the formation of the executive. However, two candidates from the Vetëvendosje Movement for the post of prime minister failed to secure the 61 votes needed to elect a new executive.

After the failure to form the Government of Kosovo, the country's president, Vjosa Osmani, dissolved the Assembly and announced early parliamentary elections, which will be held on December 28./ REL
