Brazilian meat with Kosovo logo?/ Trifon Murataj's "Zico" and "EHW", the main importers from "Apetit"

Prime Minister Edi Rama has declared a "government war" on unregistered dairy products, in what he calls a battle to ensure food quality in the context of integration into the European Union.
The operation announced by the head of government against villagers who sell milk cans to ensure minimal income seems like a drop in the bucket compared to the negligence of government institutions with the gigantic quantities of food products that arrive in our country from dubious origins.
For more than a year, the General Directorate of Customs, under the direction of Gent Gazhel , has not been able to provide an official answer to Albanian consumers and citizens as to whether the meat imported by the company "Apetit" in Kosovo is truly from the neighboring country or, as there are strong suspicions, comes from Brazil.
In April 2024, the investigative show "Stop" brought footage and evidence showing that the company "Apetit", headquartered in Obiliq, on the Pristina-Mitrovicë highway, imported frozen meat from Brazil, changed its label and distributed it to various companies, including those in Albania, as "fresh Kosovo meat".
" Boldnews.al " has managed to obtain a list of Albanian companies that have imported meat from "Apetit Group" for 2023.
The quantity imported that year of "Kosovo meat" by "Apetit Group" in Albania amounted to a total of about 600 tons (exactly 598,706 kg).
The Albanian company that has imported the most meat from "Apetit Kosova" is " Zico ", sha., also known as " Bana King ". Throughout 2023, Trifon Murataj's "Zico" has imported about 103,600 kg of "Kosovo meat".
The company "Zico" and "Apetit" have some interesting coincidences. In 2019, the National Food Authority of Albania (AKU) announced that it had blocked a shipment of 371 tons of meat at the Port of Durres, which it considered "unsafe".
Of this quantity, " two shipments with a total quantity of 52,257 tons of "Beef" originating from Brazil, imported by the entity "Apetit shpk", in transit regime in the territory of Albania with final destination Kosovo, resulted in deficiencies and essential inconsistencies in the accompanying documentation of the goods ", stated the AKU announcement at the time.
Meanwhile, " four shipments with a total quantity of 107,240 tons of "Pork" originating from Brazil, imported by the entity "ZICO sh.a." the practice has been finalized and the shipments have been returned to the country of origin ."
Further, "Zico" (Bana King) and "Apetit" seem to be linked in another dark chronicle event.
On June 15, 2022, Durrës Police and Port Customs discovered a 45-kilogram shipment of narcotics, which was packaged in a shipment of meat coming from Brazil, on behalf of the Kosovo-based company, "Apetit Group".
As part of this operation, customs agent Egert Vargu and administrator of “Apetit Group Dooel Skopje”, Arben Ferizi, were arrested in flagrante delicto. Kosovar media reported at the time that Ferizi is the son of one of the main shareholders of “Apetit Group”, Remzi Ferizi.
In an almost perfect coincidence, the Albanian entity that has imported the most beef from "Apetit Group" is "Zico" sha, a company that imports exotic fruits from Latin America and in whose containers cocaine shipments have been discovered in several episodes, during the period 2022-2024.
The second Albanian company that has imported the most meat with the "Kosovo" logo from "Apetit Group" for 2023 is the Albanian entity, " EHW".
The company owned by Luan Leka and Melina Leka appears to have imported 87,461 kg of "Kosovo" meat from "Apetit" for 2023.
The company "EHW" has been on the market since 1992 and it includes a significant part of the livestock and meat products market in our country.
Luan Lekë's company "EHW" has as its main object the production of sausage, a meat by-product. At the National Business Center (NBC), it is said that " EHW" is focused on "the construction of industrial lines for meat processing and sausage production, etc." .
