Osmani demands measures against Vučić, Costa: Let the situation in the north

Kosovo President Vjosa Osmani requested measures against her Serbian counterpart, Aleksandar Vučić, after the latter stayed in Moscow weeks ago. The request went to the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, who stayed in Pristina, where he also met with acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti.

"His visit to Moscow cannot be seen in any other light than as a clear political act that challenges the very sustainability and stability of Europe, and if a country claiming to be a member behaves like this and is not confronted with any measures by that country's leadership, then the question naturally arises as to what message is being given to our region," Osmani said, writes A2.

Osmani also called for the lifting of the punitive measures imposed on Kosovo two years ago following tensions in northern Kosovo. According to her, Kosovo has met all the requirements that came from the Bratislava Agreement: “Soon, it will be a year since Mr. Borrell, who was the leader of the dialogue, formally concluded that Kosovo has met all the criteria set by the European Union in order to lift the measures.”

The President of the European Council, Costa, said that the measures are related to the security situation in the northern part: "These measures are related to the need to reduce tensions in the region and in the north of the country. I hope that this de-escalation will happen as soon as possible. After the de-escalation, we can move forward and lift the measures. I hope that the recent events do not represent a new trend, but are an exception that confirms that you are committed to de-escalating the situation and to moving forward on the European path and to engaging in the Brussels dialogue."

Regarding Kosovo's application for membership in the European Union, Costa recalled the normalization of relations with Serbia: "It is vital to make real and clear progress in the dialogue to normalize relations between Kosovo and Serbia. This would serve your ambitions on the path towards the European Union and certainly in the lives of the citizens of Kosovo. Kosovo has its place in the European family, but it also requires that you adhere to your commitments."

Costa confirmed that the enlargement of the European Union with the six Western Balkan countries is a priority of the current European leadership.
