Is there a veto from 9 countries for Albania's negotiations with the EU? Rama: Jokes! Someone stands up there and asks "what are you doing with the minorities"

Prime Minister Edi Rama, during a meeting with the SP assembly in Durrës, answered participants' questions about Albania's future in the European Union and political developments in the main EU countries.
Asked about the possibility of extremist forces winning in countries like France and Germany, Rama stressed that the membership process should be seen in two ways: Albania's efforts and the decision-making of member countries.
He compared the European Union to a "two-story building," where on the first floor are the European Commission and technical experts who monitor the fulfillment of tasks by the aspiring countries, while on the second floor are the 27 member states who make the final decision.
"According to what we do, on the first floor they submit the recommendation to open negotiations. But on the second floor, unanimity is needed. If one says no, the process stops. It may happen that politics in France or Germany change for the worse, but we have no other choice but to do our duties and be ready," Rama said.
The Prime Minister also brought to attention the progress of the negotiations, emphasizing that Albania has managed to open all chapters within 11 months thanks to the preparations made over the years.
Regarding reports that nine EU countries have vetoed Albania, Rama described these claims as untrue.
"This 9-state thing is a joke. One vetoes, so it's called a veto. If there are 9, it's called a vote, not a veto," he said.
According to him, the European Commission has currently issued a positive report on Albania and the process is in the phase of questions from member states, which are seeking clarification on various issues such as minority rights or guarantees for reforms.
Rama said that at this stage Albania is supported by the European Commission and that the process is expected to advance by the end of April or beginning of May.
"This 9-state thing is a joke that has vetoed. One vetoes, so it's called a veto. If it's 9, it's called a vote, not a veto. The process we're talking about now is, the commission has given its report on us, we're fine. Now they come from the second floor, take the ambassadors to the first floor, sit with us and the EC. We and the EC are on one side, the states are on the other. The questions start, one gets up and asks what you've done for minorities. The other says how do we guarantee that you won't change your mind about an aspect. There are several rounds of questions. Today I saw the report for the last round. The EC is protecting us there. I believe until the end of April and the beginning of May. It will happen like with the Peace Board. They said there was no invitation, I had the invitation. Then they said that the invitation is for many countries, not just this one. He went to Switzerland, I didn't go because I was here with his daughter. They said no, they stopped him from going, etc. etc. I went there in "The US, they said this one is corrupt, that one is corrupt. Now Germany has come out. May has come and we will raise the German flag in Shijak and we will tell them to come here now because in Shijak there is a veto against negotiations with the EU," said Rama.
