President Trump nominates retired general as new US ambassador to Tirana

US President Donald Trump has submitted to the United States Senate the name of Eric Wendt, from California, to be appointed as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United States of America to Albania.
Who is Eric Eric P. Wendt?
Eric P. Wendt is a retired United States Army lieutenant general who most recently served as the fifth commander of NATO Special Operations Headquarters, ending his tenure on January 29, 2021.
As a senior officer, Wendt previously served as the United States Security Coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority from November 2017 to October 2019. Prior to that, he served as the chief of staff of the United States Pacific Command from May 2015 to September 2016, as the commander of the John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School from 2014 to 2015, as the commander of Special Operations Command Korea from 2012 to 2014, and as the deputy commander of the International Security Assistance Force's Regional Command North in Afghanistan from 2011 to 2012.
Wendt was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the U.S. Army through the ROTC program at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1986, where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in law and social studies. He then completed a master's degree in national security affairs at the Naval Postgraduate School. He retired on March 1, 2021, after more than 34 years of distinguished service, including over 4 years in the infantry and 30 years as a member of the Special Forces ('Green Beret'). He speaks Arabic and Korean.
Donald Trump nominated him as United States Ambassador to Qatar on September 22, 2020, but the confirmation hearing did not take place before the end of the 116th Congress term on January 3, 2021, so his nomination was returned without consideration.
