Bardhi against changes to the Criminal Code: Balluku, who abused 50 million

The leader of the Democratic Party parliamentary group, Gazment Bardhi, has sharply criticized the proposed changes to the Criminal Code, stating that they aim to punish citizens for minor violations, while serious abuses of public funds remain unpunished.

Speaking this afternoon at the plenary session of the Parliament, Bardhi stated that with the new amendments, double parking is expected to be considered a criminal offense, while, according to him, corruption has been decriminalized. He accused Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku of embezzling 50 million euros, emphasizing that despite these accusations, she is appearing in the Parliament to vote on the new Criminal Code.

According to him, in a country where new towers are built without sufficient road infrastructure, citizens are punished for double parking, while senior officials accused of financial abuse continue to exercise state functions.

Bardhi also recalled that the Criminal Code has been amended several times over the years and that each time it has been adapted to European Union standards. He mentioned that in 2012 the Parliament approved the decriminalization of defamation, while today, according to him, international demands are moving towards its complete decriminalization.

In conclusion, the head of the DP parliamentary group emphasized that the new amendments to the Criminal Code create double standards, punishing citizens for minor violations, while officials accused of corruption remain unaffected.

Gazment Bardhi: The Criminal Code has changed several times and has always been adapted to EU standards.
In 2012, this Assembly approved the decriminalization of defamation, today we are at another standard, where demands on Albania require us to completely decriminalize defamation.

Find me a second place where double parking is a criminal offense. Those who have decriminalized corruption steal 50 million euros with one hand and say why should she go to prison. But if you double park, this one will put you in prison and the boss of this one. In a place where new towers are built and there are no roads, these people punish you for double parking.

If you double park, you tell Albanians to go to jail, but if you stole or abused 1.1 million euros as your deputy prime minister, you should come here as number 2 in the deputy prime minister's chair, and I am even convinced that you will come today to vote on the Penal Code. The citizen who double parks should go to jail with the vote of Belinda Balluku, while the deputy prime minister steals 50 million euros and comes to vote to put the citizen in jail.
