Daily Mail: The new ambassador of Albania in London entered England by truck

The new ambassador of Albania to the United Kingdom, Uran Ferizi, who will work with the government to ban the crossing with dinghies, entered England illegally with a truck, says the British media " Daily Mail" .

The 42-year-old made a false claim for asylum when he arrived in Calais in 1998, claiming to be Kosovar with a false date of birth.

Last week, he was officially accepted by David Cameron's Foreign Office, despite Home Office reservations, as the official representative of Albania in Britain and will now be officially appointed by the King at Buckingham Palace.

But the night before, the former foreign minister of Albania, Edith Harxhi, said: It is not diplomatically, morally or ethically right for someone who entered the United Kingdom illegally to be appointed ambassador. The migration crisis must be taken seriously.

Ferizi will act as a bridge between Albania and the UK governments to curb illegal migration.

Over the past ten years, thousands of Albanians have entered Britain illegally, in trucks from Calais and in small boats across the Channel.

Multiple sources for " Daily Mail" have confirmed that Ferizi arrived in Great Britain as an illegal migrant, without any identification documents when he arrived in Dover, claiming that he was fleeing the war in Kosovo.

He was allowed to stay until his case was assessed.

Public records show he married a British woman named Sarah Lennon in Hammersmith, West London, in May 2000.

On the basis of this marriage, he was granted indefinite leave to remain in Britain three years later.

Despite never having worked in the diplomatic service, he was nominated for the post of ambassador by the Albanian government in June.

Suella Braverman's Home Office raised concerns about Feriz's appointment when he was nominated, but was overruled by the Foreign Office.

According to his online CV, Ferizi is a mathematician and computer scientist who studied at the University of Oxford and University College London.

He was a financial analyst at JP Morgan in London between 2006 and 2008 before moving to the US to work as a research scientist at New York and Stanford universities, California.

Before assuming his role, Ferizi will visit Buckingham Palace to present the King with the ' Letter of Credentials ', an official letter from the Albanian head of state that says he can be entrusted with the job.

Traditionally, the King then holds an informal conversation with the new ambassador about the key issues facing their country.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has repeatedly welcomed Britain's 'operational cooperation' with Albania to tackle illegal migration.

However, Harxhi said that the appointment of Feriz " shows that we are only talking about stopping the ships".

" The ambassador's job in London is the most important and prestigious after Washington, but [Ferizi] has no experience in the diplomatic service ," said Harxhi.

She said a census shows that Albania's population of 2.8 million has dropped by nearly 1.5 million since 2011.

" I believe most of those people have gone to the UK. Many Albanians see it as a welfare state for the unskilled. They are mainly people from the north of Albania, where practically there has been no investment. To stop illegal migration, the government must improve the lives of its citizens ", added Harxhi.

The night before, Ferizi said that he has not yet 'started work properly', so he was not allowed to speak to the media.

The Foreign Office has not commented on the immigration status of an individual, stressing that " It is up to Albania to recommend a candidate to be their ambassador ".
